The Certification Advisory Board (CAB) is a vital part of the Certified MDS Assessment Coordinator (CMAC) certification program.  The advisory board consists of experienced industry leaders who wish to give back to the senior care market by taking an active role in the CMAC certification program.  CAB members are recognized for their expertise in the MDS process, care planning, quality improvement and reimbursement.


The CAB is a volunteer board and participation to the CAB is by invitation only.  The goal of CAB representation is to have board members that represent the unique disciplines found within the inter-disciplinary team within the senior care market.


  1. Functions & Responsibilities:

    1. Approve the CMAC curriculum, certification design, exam performance standards and make other essential certification decisions based upon its own determination or upon recommendation from others.

    2. Monitor, revise as needed and approve CMAC certification policies and procedures.

    3. Assure the independence of the CMAC certification program from other conflicting interests.

    4. Oversee the CMAC appeals process and professional misconduct guidelines.

    5. Attend regularly scheduled CAB meetings.


  1. Composition: The CAB will be comprised of a minimum of (5) members and a maximum of (7) members.

  1. The AIS Executive Management Team will appoint the Chairperson of the CAB.

  2. The CAB Chairperson will invite different industry leaders to become members of the CAB.  The AIS Executive Management Team will approve all CAB members.

  3. The CAB members will select a board Secretary

  4. A minimum of one (1) registered nurse with experience in the US Senior Care Market.

  5. A minimum of one (1) registered therapist with experience in the US Senior Care Market

  6. A Minimum of three (3) members that are not employees of AIS Inc.

  7. All CAB members must have extensive experience and currently have an active role within their organization in the RAI process.


  1. Authority:

    1. The CAB is an advisory board and provides input to the AIS Executive Management team.

    2. The CAB has no authority to expend funds.

    3. The CAB has no authority to make public statements about CAB policy and/or details of the CMAC certification program.


  1. Term: The term for each CAB member is two (2) years. Members are eligible for reappointment following the two (2) year term.


  1. Quorum:

    1. A quorum will consist of three CAB members, one of whom will be the CAB Chair Person.


  1. Meetings:

    1. Schedule: monthly during the initial program development and setup and at least two times annually on an ongoing basis.

    2. Format: meetings will be held by telecommunications or electronic means.

    3. Voting: will take place by electronic means

    4. Agenda: developed by the committee Chair Person

    5. Minutes: minutes will be drafted by the CAB Secretary and circulated to the CAB Chair Person for approval of the draft. Meeting minutes will be circulated to board members and approved via email ballot. Approved copy of the minutes will be kept on file.


  1. Decision Making:

    1. Decisions requiring approval will be formally motioned by a CAB member.

    2. A majority consensus (50% +1) will constitute agreement.


  1. Accountability:

    1. The CAB is accountable to the AIS Executive Management Team. Reports and/or meeting minutes will be provided to the AIS Executive Management Team as required.
